The number 23. No, not the 2007 Jim Carey movie that currently has a rating of 8% on Rotten Tomatoes (that’ll learn him for playing The Grinch), nor the shirt number favoured by sportsballm’n Michael Jordan and Sir. David of Beckhenham. No, today the number 23 is all about the window we’re opening on our Whisky Advent Calendars!
And behind that window you’ll discover… The Macallan Amber! It’s the second single malt in this Speyside distillery’s 1824 Series of ex-Sherry cask matured non age statement whiskies. Each release in the range is named after its colour, the others being Gold, Sienna and Ruby. You may be thinking that Gold sounds more festive, but the dram in your hand is actually worth more than its weight in Gold. Ho ho oro!

“Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt for The Macallan Amber:
Nose: Soft aromatic vanilla, lemon and barley with hints of ginger. Milk chocolate buttons and hints of Sun-Maid Raisins.
Palate: Surprisingly thick and fruity compared to the nose. Golden sultanas, dates, apple peelings and a dusting of cinnamon. Cereal notes on the mid-palate, joined by mince pies with crumbly shortbread.
Finish: Fragrant oak finish, with the mince pie notes lingering.
Overall: The second level in the 1824 Series, after the more citrus-led Gold.”
