Kilchoman Whisky Advent

Three days into Drinks by the Dram’s Whisky Advent Calendar and we’ve got ourselves a tasty Islay single malt to enjoy…

Welcome to the first weekend of December, everybody! We wish you good luck if you’re getting ahead of the game and getting in some early Christmas gift shopping to avoid ending up like Arnie searching for a Turbo-Man toy at last minute. Christmas-based Arnold Schwarzenegger movies aside, let’s see what dram is behind window #3 of Drinks by the Dram’s Whisky Advent Calendar – it’s Kilchoman Machir Bay!

A fantastic single malt from Islay’s farm distillery, Machir Bay is drawn from a combination of ex-bourbon barrels and Oloroso Sherry butts, resulting in a fine balance of creamy vanilla, juicy fruit and ever-present peat. Yum…

Kilchoman Whisky Advent

Tasting Note for Kilchoman Machir Bay:

Nose: Citrus zests, crumbly vanilla biscuits and layers of elegant peat smoke.

Palate: A generous burst of tropical fruit and dried raisin opens the palate. Warming smoke continues to waft playfully.

Finish: Sherried fruits and sprinkle of cracked black pepper.

If gin is more your thing and you picked up one of the Ginvent Calendar (the annual awesome collaboration between Drinks by the Dram and Gin Foundry), you’ll have found a dram of City of London Christopher Wren Gin within your calendar! Smashing in a G&T, this stuff…

City of London Distillery Gin Advent

Tasting Note for City of London Christopher Wren Gin:

Nose: Well rounded with classic pine notes, fragrant citrus and earthy creaminess.

Palate: Juniper is front and centre with sweet, sticky orange and liquorice depth.

Finish: All that’s gone before comes together on the finish, fantastic stuff.
