Maltstock 2011 is coming!

As many of you will remember, a Master of Malt contingent attended last year’s Maltstock event, and had an absolute whale of a time – read all about it here…

Maltstock is coming again, and in under 2 weeks’ time, I’ll be making my way over there with the irrepressible Neil Ridley (from off of that there www.caskstrength.net), a car full of Master of Malt goodies, my responsible drinking boots, and my iPhone charger. Must take the iPhone charger (I figure if I keep writing it, there’s at least a 50% chance I’ll actually remember this time).

Maltstock runs between Friday 9^th September, and Sunday 11^th September, and costs only €175 for the whole weekend including accommodation and all meals – all you need to do is bring a bottle or two of your favourite whisky to share with everyone else. If you’re travelling from the UK, you can fly, then get the train from Amsterdam to Nijmegen (this cost about £100 each last year), or drive (ferry from Calais costs about £50, and Nijmegen is about a 4 hour drive from Calais). Although Maltstock is in the Netherlands, English is spoken for the whole weekend.

Rather than drivel on about how excellent a weekend it is (and it really is), I’ll entreat you all to simply read the blog post about last year’s trip, and think about the fact that this year, the catering is being done by a Dutch BBQ specialist who is currently ranked at number 5 in the world BBQ championships (yes – that’s a real thing).

As if this wasn’t enough, the second tasting of the weekend (18:00 on Friday) is going to be done by yours truly with assistance from Neil Ridley, and will focus solely on whiskies from closed distilleries. I’ve got (some of) the bottles on the shelf behind my desk – so here’s a sneak preview.
