Five whiskies for someone (really) special
Compass Box Flaming Heart (2022 Edition)
Remember making people cute playlists? Well blended whisky big hitters, Compass Box, have done the work for you as its Flaming Heart expression comes with a curated selection of songs. The 2022 edition is a fruitier offering of this smoke machine.
Balvenie 21 Year Old – The Second Red Rose
You have to really love someone to let them stay in your castle in exchange for a single rose, which was the rent Margaret Douglas paid King James III to stay at Balvenie Castle, so it goes. Part of the Balvenie Stories series, this whisky was inspired by the tale of this rare rose, and has been finished in Australian shiraz casks.
Bushmills Rum Cask 1997 (2022 Edition) – The Causeway Collection
Fittingly, this addition to the Causeway Collection was distilled on Valentine’s Day back in 1997. The whiskey matured in rum casks for an impressive 25 years, and was the first to be selected for the series by Alex Thomas as Bushmills’ newest master blender.
Hibiki 12 Year Old (50cl)
There were a fair few broken hearts when the beloved 12-year-old was discontinued, and age-statement Hibiki shows no signs of quitting its collectible status. Impeccably blended whisky from Suntory’s Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Chita distilleries, which ought to make someone very happy indeed.
Rosebank 21 Year Old – The Roses Edition #6 ‘Unity’
Roses are red, Rosebank is rare, this could be yours if you have £3999 spare. And tell you what, this Lowland whisky will blow any bouquet of roses out the water. Distilled in 1993, and matured in a combination of bourbon and Madeira casks.
