Bathtub Gin 6 Litre Methuselah!

by Jake Mountain     28. April 2016 18:00

Bathtub Gin Methuselah

Once upon a time we all bought our Bathtub Gin in 70cl bottles. That was fine, I suppose, but since March last year it's been available by the Magnum. That's 1.5 litres - over twice as big! Pleasing.

Now, Bathtub Gin is going to be available by the Methuselah! That's 6 litres (or 4 Magnums)! Pre-Order yours here.

Ginder - Find Your Perfect Junipartner!

by Master of Malt     1. April 2016 07:50

Ginder

Still waiting for a reply from Handsome Clive? Well, you can stop checking your phone every five minutes - the announcement of Ginder has not coincidentally coincided with the 1st of April. We are also sad to announce that Handsome Clive was a fabrication of ours for this ruse. Handsome he may be, real he is not.

There are so many dating apps out there today, increasingly catering for important niches such as dog-owners, farmers, people who wear uniforms (or like uniforms) or those with beards (or who like beards) – you can even find your ‘salad soulmate’ – but what about drinks preferences?

On balance, one’s more epicurean, even sybaritic persuasions and preferences seem a more viable means of finding a match than many of the frivolous criteria mentioned above, especially for readers of this blog. Hence why we’re proud to present Ginder, a brand new app to help you find someone who shares your taste in gin! (Try the beta version on your mobile now!)

Our English Whisky Co. Single Cask Bottlings & an Interview with Andrew Nelstrop!

by Sam Smith     31. March 2016 09:30

English Whisky Company

Long time readers of the Master of Malt Blog will know that we visited the home of the English Whisky Company in Norfolk all the way back in 2009 - over 6 years ago! Ben had a look around the awesome St. George’s Distillery, saw a dog and definitely didn’t get told off by a colleague for having to be physically dragged away from their cask storage containers.

Yamazaki Lottery & Auction Roundup raising over £2,800 for Malaria No More UK!

by Master of Malt     21. March 2016 16:00

Allocations Yamazaki

Now that the action is over, it's time to let you know how it all went...

To recap, our allocation of Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2016 was 6 bottles, so we decided to have 4 bottles turned into Drinks by the Dram 3cl samples (drams) with a lottery that would give 90 people the chance to taste it, 1 bottle available through another lottery (with a nice message scribbled on the back to encourage the winner to crack it open), and 1 final unadulterated bottle was auctioned (with everything over the RRP of £200 going to charity). Much more on the 'Why?' can be found in the previous Yamazaki Sherry Cask post: Allocations, limited releases, bastards, speculators and gobshites.

Master of Malt named Global Online Retailer of the Year 2016!

by Master of Malt     18. March 2016 10:30

Icons of Whisky Online Retailer

The results of Whisky Magazine's Global Icons of Whisky were revealed last night, and we're absolutely thrilled to announce that following our Rest of the World win, we've now been named Global Online Retailer of the Year 2016!

For our purpose-built website, that we've coded from the ground up and worked hard to continuously improve (there's always more to do - #goodenoughisnt), to have been recognised as the very best online retailer for whisky by the knowledgeable folk at Whisky Magazine in 2012, 2013, 2014 and now 2016 is a simply incredible achievement that really does make us burst with pride.

In the Beginning, There was Beer...

by Jake Mountain     2. March 2016 11:00

Ancient Egyptian Beer

We do beer now, as you'll no doubt know by now. That means we'll be writing about the delicious stuff here on the blog as well as all the new and exciting pages on the site. Where to start though? Well, how about at the very beginning? That's usually the best place.

My compulsion to start thousands of years ago may have something to do with my degree in Ancient History & Archaeology. It's not something I get to use daily as part of my employment in drinks retail*, but today's different. To trace the history of beer from the start you have to go right back into the ancient world, to the very birth of civilisation in fact...
