by Sam Smith     31. March 2016 09:30

English Whisky Company

Long time readers of the Master of Malt Blog will know that we visited the home of the English Whisky Company in Norfolk all the way back in 2009 - over 6 years ago! Ben had a look around the awesome St. George’s Distillery, saw a dog and definitely didn’t get told off by a colleague for having to be physically dragged away from their cask storage containers.

Yamazaki Lottery & Auction Roundup raising over £2,800 for Malaria No More UK!

by Master of Malt     21. March 2016 16:00

Allocations Yamazaki

Now that the action is over, it's time to let you know how it all went...

To recap, our allocation of Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2016 was 6 bottles, so we decided to have 4 bottles turned into Drinks by the Dram 3cl samples (drams) with a lottery that would give 90 people the chance to taste it, 1 bottle available through another lottery (with a nice message scribbled on the back to encourage the winner to crack it open), and 1 final unadulterated bottle was auctioned (with everything over the RRP of £200 going to charity). Much more on the 'Why?' can be found in the previous Yamazaki Sherry Cask post: Allocations, limited releases, bastards, speculators and gobshites.

Master of Malt named Global Online Retailer of the Year 2016!

by Master of Malt     18. March 2016 10:30

Icons of Whisky Online Retailer

The results of Whisky Magazine's Global Icons of Whisky were revealed last night, and we're absolutely thrilled to announce that following our Rest of the World win, we've now been named Global Online Retailer of the Year 2016!

For our purpose-built website, that we've coded from the ground up and worked hard to continuously improve (there's always more to do - #goodenoughisnt), to have been recognised as the very best online retailer for whisky by the knowledgeable folk at Whisky Magazine in 2012, 2013, 2014 and now 2016 is a simply incredible achievement that really does make us burst with pride.

Allocations Yamazaki

Right.

We last talked about this when we knackered up the release of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection back in November, but, well, there have been quite a lot of comments on the product page we've set up for the Yamazaki Sherry Cask Release (we don’t censor these, remember).

The Return of Johnnie Walker Green Label!

by Jake Mountain     17. February 2016 13:30

Johnnie Walker Green Label

We're delighted to announce that Green Label has returned to the UK and reclaimed its place in the Johnnie Walker range!

First introduced in 2005, in 2012 it was announced that the 15 year old blended malt was to be discontinued, to the disappointment of its many fans (although it was never actually removed from all markets worldwide). In 2015 it was reintroduced in North America on a temporary basis to mark its tenth anniversary, but its long term future still hung in the balance.

Burns Night: Traditional vs. Untraditional

by Sam Smith     19. January 2016 17:04

Robert Burns

So. Burns Night. That’s next week. Burns Suppers date back to 1801, with the first one being held by friends of the celebrated Scottish poet Robert Burns. They’ve continued ever since, with people around the world enjoying haggis, poetry and whisky on the 25th of January. When something happens for over 200 years, sometimes people think about trying to do something a bit untraditional - like the year that Monkey Shoulder hosted a Burns night celebrating Montgomery Burns and Jake wrote a blog post mostly about a completely different TV show character.
