We Do Beer Now!

by Master of Malt     12. February 2016 12:00

Beer Master of Malt

That’s right, as you may have noticed we now have hundreds of delicious beers, from classic Trappist ales and Pilsners to craft IPAs, APAs, Porters and more! We've long admired the beer world, and the craft brewing movement in particular, and thought it was high time whisky’s brewed cousin was ‘properly’ represented on the site.

We are Master of Malt, after all…

The Kingsbarns Distillery in Fife has just passed some big milestones - not only was it their first anniversary in November last year (they launched the Kingsbarns Distillery Founders' Club to celebrate), but January was the anniversary of their first mash and first spirit distillation! These are memorable events for new distilleries - the start of their journey to making whisky! Congratulations to Kingsbarns Distillery Manager Peter Holroyd and his team!

Good Enough, Isn't... 2015 in Review

by Master of Malt     6. January 2016 16:30

Whisky Santa

What a year it’s been. It’s always nice to have a bit of an old roundup at about this time - so here we go!

First up, we must acknowledge a huge failure on our part. During December we had what we can only call a catastrophic security compromise. We detected it in early December and worked hard all month to identify the perpetrator and bring the security compromise to a halt, but were unable to remove the threat until Christmas Day. Even then, we were unable to stop the perpetrator - he stopped of his own volition, almost as if he lost interest or had better things to do. #WhiskySanta has a lot to answer for.

A Goodbye from Master of Malt's #WhiskySanta for 2015

by Whisky Santa     25. December 2015 06:00

Whisky Santa

Merry Christmas everyone!

My festive work here is done and I can honestly say that this has been my favourite Christmas ever! I granted 43 wishes this year (one each and every day since 12th November) and also gave away extra gifts to thousands of lucky Master of Malt customers at the checkout! That's a total of well over £25,000 of treats!!!

I received over 24,000 wishes in total and a big thank you to all of you for spreading the good word (#WhiskySanta was delivered to twitter timelines over 21 million times during the period!). Amongst my favourite wishes to grant this year were @daxledbetter's Ardbeg 23 Year Old 1991 (cask 10274) - Directors' Cut (Douglas Laing) and @DavidCraikPhoto's Master of Malt 30 Year Old Speyside Whisky Liqueur on Twitter as well as Jo Lawson's Penderyn Bourbon Cask B227 on Facebook. Fantastic choices!

Kew Organic Gin

by Jake Mountain     16. December 2015 17:30

Kew Gin

Today we'd like to tell you about a new and extremely exciting gin! There are always new gins coming out, of course, but how many of them are made with hand picked botanicals from Kew Gardens?! Kew Organic Gin is certainly something quite special.

Dodd's Gin (the chaps from The London Distillery Company in Battersea) has partnered with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew to create a brand new organic gin from the aforementioned foraged seasonal Kew flora and other organic botanicals from around the world. The famous gardens span 320 acres, employing 750 staff (250 of which are scientists with many more involved in the internationally important research carried out there) and house a truly extraordinary collection of useful plants and fungi. Understandably, it's been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003. Can you dream of a better place to source botanicals?

Ardbeg Ships Free This Christmas!

by Master of Malt     15. December 2015 10:00

Ardbeg

You know how we hate charging for shipping? We want to banish the mere concept of "shipping charges" to the land of wind and ghosts where it can stay. In our continued effort to do so (aside from trying to modify our delivery trebuchet to be able to open portals to windy ghost lands), up until Christmas if you order a bottle of Ardbeg your entire order will get Free Shipping within the UK and £5 off elsewhere!
