If that’s all the information you need to get the creative juices in your brain flowing as if you’ve just discovered a cupboard filled with tiny colourful Danish toy bricks, click here to start building. The Return of Ask #WhiskySanta... He'll grant one wish per day!

by Whisky Santa     12. November 2015 16:00

Whisky Santa

Guess who is back... Back once again... #WhiskySanta is back! Tell all your friends and loved ones. Ho ho ho! A bit of the M&M-style wrap for you there. I like to stay current.

That's right, your favourite festive, omniscient, supernatural, heavily-bearded being is back from his holibobs. I may have only had ten months off after last year's festivities (during which I even received a shiny ISC award) but a tinsel-covered alarm clock has gone off somewhere and I'm feeling extremely generous once again! Time to make some lists and check them twice - lists of people using #WhiskySanta, that is - before granting one wish per day for you lucky people for a second year running!

Naga Chilli Vodka calendars (the latter getting hotter each day!)

World Drinks Awards World Whiskies Awards 2015

Yesterday saw the winners of the 2015 World Drinks Awards announced, as well as the winners of Whisky Magazine's Icons of Whisky and World Whiskies Awards - a very busy rotation of the Earth! It was also a fantastic day for many of the brands we work with / own / represent as you'll see from the veritable cornucopia of trophies and awards below.

Drink by the Dram have also produced a selection of Winners Tasting Sets, which you can find here.

Find a Four-Leaf Clover And Win In Our St. Patrick's Day Competition!

St Patrick's Day 2015 Irish Whiskey Tasting Set

If you take a glance up at the sky, you might notice that the rolling blanket of grey clouds that we’ve become acquainted with for the past 6 months is sometimes briefly replaced with a flaming ball of hot plasma. That fact that we can catch a glimpse of it means the cosmic grip of winter is waning and spring is on its way to thaw us out.

This also means that St. Patrick’s Day is almost upon us! To celebrate the Feast of Saint Patrick (and the fact that the Sun hasn't left us and ran off with some other planet like COROT-7b), we’re running a little competition which could result in you getting your hands on some fabulous Irish whiskey!

A Goodbye From Master of Malt’s #WhiskySanta

by Whisky Santa     25. December 2014 00:00

Master of Malt #WhiskySanta

Merry Christmas!

What a festive season it's been already! It's been my absolute pleasure to grant 56 wishes (one every day since 30th October), and that's not all! There have been plenty of other Christmas pressies, giveaways and special offers - a word on those Ask #WhiskySanta wishes first though... I received over 13,000 wishes in total and a big thank you to all of you for spreading the good word (#WhiskySanta was delivered to twitter timelines over 9.1 million times during the period!).

Whisky Santa's Whisky Advent Day 24: The Lost Distilleries Blend

by Whisky Santa     24. December 2014 00:00

The Lost Distilleries Blend

For those of you not blessed with omniscience or immortality, window 24 of Whisky Advent Calendar offers an exciting opportunity to taste some historic whiskies. And if you do happen to be omnipotent or immortal? Well it's still an opportunity to taste some jolly delicious whisky!

The Lost Distilleries Blend was named World's Best Blended Whisky 2014 at Whisky Magazine's World Whiskies Awards and does exactly what it says on the tin (or at least the bottle and handsome box). It's made up solely with whiskies from sadly now closed distilleries, many of whom have become legendary, with batch six containing malt from Port Ellen, Mosstowie, Caperdonich, Glenisla, Imperial, Glen Mhor and Brora, alongside grain from Port Dundas.

Whisky Santa's Whisky Advent Day 23: The Macallan Amber

by Whisky Santa     23. December 2014 00:00

The Macallan Amber 1824

The number 23. No, not the 2007 Jim Carey movie that currently has a rating of 8% on Rotten Tomatoes (that'll learn him for playing The Grinch), nor the shirt number favoured by sportsballm'n Michael Jordan and Sir. David of Beckhenham. No, today the number 23 is all about the window we're opening on our Whisky Advent Calendars!

And behind that window you'll discover... The Macallan Amber! It's the second single malt in this Speyside distillery's 1824 Series of ex-Sherry cask matured non age statement whiskies. Each release in the range is named after its colour, the others being Gold, Sienna and Ruby. You may be thinking that Gold sounds more festive, but the dram in your hand is actually worth more than its weight in Gold. Ho ho oro!

Whisky Santa's Whisky Advent Day 22: Mackinlay’s Shackleton Rare Old Highland Malt

by Whisky Santa     22. December 2014 00:00

Mackinlay’s Shackleton Rare Old Highland Malt The Journey

Antarctica? Pah. They have land beneath their ice and snow, that's cheating. And all those penguins that a certain retailer seems to think have something to do with Christmas!? No, no, no. The Arctic, that's the place for me. Polar bears, reindeer, narwhals and Father Pugmas. North side massive.

In fact, it wasn't until Ranulph Fiennes popped by for tea a few years back that I gave much thought to the likes of Ernest Shackleton, who always seemed to have an unhealthy obsession with the wrong pole for my liking. Chose a great whisky for his men back in 1907 though did ol' Ernest, so I was delighted when Richard Paterson recreated it (twice) over one hundred years later! The Journey blended malt contains rare Glen Mhor (1980) and heavily-peated Dalmore(!) as well as whiskies from Glenfarclas, Mannochmore, Tamnavulin, Ben Nevis, Aultmore, Fettercairn, Pulteney and Jura.

Whisky Santa's Whisky Advent Day 21: Mortlach Rare Old

by Whisky Santa     21. December 2014 00:00

Mortlach Rare Old

Time for us all to open the 21st window of our Whisky Advent Calendars! And inside it's... a new look single malt Scotch whisky from Dufftown in Speyside. A whole new expression from Mortlach to be precise, a distillery that was founded back in the 1820s and you may know best from their 16yo 'Flora & Fauna' release featuring a Goldeneye duck. (James Pond, anyone?)

With past distillery releases few and far between, Mortlach (or 'duck massacre') now has its own shiny new core range! Time to jump in with Rare Old, which has a greater bourbon cask influence than you may expect alongside the more familiar Sherried spirit.
