Master of Cocktails - Pink Gin

by Ben Ellefsen     16. March 2015 08:30

Master of Cocktails Pink Gin

Well greetings one and all. Ready for another installment of #MasterofCocktails? Good then.

This week's is a very, very straightforward drink, but one that seems to have fallen somewhat out of favour recently. We're making a Pink Gin recipe. Probably one of the very first Gin cocktails?

The original recipe here calls for simply gin and bitters, served at room temperature, in a tumbler. Not that, obviously.

Master of Cocktails The Widow's Kiss

Well hello there cocktail fan. I nearly didn't see you there. Fancy a drink? Then you're in luck, as you're just in time for another #MasterofCocktails.

This week we're going to make a 'Widow's Kiss' recipe from the excellent PDT Cocktail Book by Jim Meehan. If you haven't got this tome in your library, I heartily suggest you amend that oversight. Look, I even gave you the Amazon link and everything. Get to it. Chop chop.

Master of Cocktails - Spiced Pear Whiskey Sour

by Ben Ellefsen     5. January 2015 09:57

Master of Cocktails Spiced Pear Whiskey Sour

Right then ladies and gents. Trust everyone's recovered sufficiently after NYE? Time for this week's #MasterofCocktails. This week we're making a super-delicious Whiskey-Sour Variant recipe, which I have simply dubbed the Spiced Pear Whiskey Sour. We'll be using the St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur for this one. It really is god's own stuff, made using Pear Brandy, Pear Juice, and spices. Top, top marks St George Spirits.

I'm pairing (pearing? Sorry. Sorry) it with Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon for its perfume. I think this works well with the spice.

Master of Cocktails Breakfast Martini

Right then cocktail fans. Trust we all had a cracking Christmas? Ready for a drink? Course you are...

For this week's #MasterofCocktails (the last of 2014, I might add), we're making what's become something of a modern classic courtesy of Salvatore Calabrese (@CocktailMaestro). We are, of course, making a Breakfast Martini recipe.

Buttered toast at the ready...

Free Shipping on Mr Lyan Cocktails for New Year's Eve!

by Sam Smith     27. December 2014 09:00

Mr Lyan New Year's Eve Master of Malt

Picture the scene - you're hosting a New Year's Eve party for your friends and want to serve them something delicious to drink, something more original than the New Year's Eve classic known as 'all the Champagne'. The obvious answer here is, of course, cocktails. But you don't want to spend your whole evening mixing drinks, missing out on all the frivolities or, worse still, the countdown to the New Year! The solution? Get a world-famous bartender to do literally all of the work for you!

This is, in fact, entirely possible because the spectacular range of Mr. Lyan pre-bottled cocktails exists! Much like the drinks served in Ryan Chetiyawardana's White Lyan (crowned Best New International Cocktail Bar at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards 2014), these little rascals are ready to serve straight from your fridge, letting you ring in the new year in effortless style. Tasty, tasty style.

Master of Cocktails - The Marronhattan

by Ben Ellefsen     22. December 2014 10:39

Master of Cocktails Marronhattan

Greetings all - time for this week's #MasterofCocktails. I'm very much aware that this one's sort of like the Christmas Number one, so we've got a really good one for you. It's a manhattan variant made with an *amazing* Single-Barrel Bourbon (props to Maverick Drinks' Michael Vachon on the cask selection), and Creme de Chataigne liqueur (Chestnut liqueur).

The name, you ask? Why, it's a Marronhattan, of course.

Master of Cocktails - The Magic Number

by Ben Ellefsen     8. December 2014 11:53

Master of Cocktails The Magic Number

Greetings all. Anyone fancy a drink?

We're making a cocktail using Champagne for this week's #MasterofCocktails - it's The Magic Number recipe. It's not a 'Champagne cocktail', as that's a thing in its own right. This is a variation on a recipe I nicked from the Kamm & Sons website. Variation only in quantities, not ingredients. It's a great showcase for the Kamm & Sons British Aperitif - which is sort of bittersweet. Closest comparison would probably be Campari.

Anywhoo - this really is a very easy-to-make drink, and is a break from the Christmas tradition of 'all the Champagne'.

Master of Cocktails - Pedro Grant goes to New Orleans

Master of Cocktails Pedro Grant Goes To New Orleans

Right then folks. Time for another #MasterofCocktails! This week's involves setting things on fire, which is always fun.

We're going to be making a Christmassy twist on a Sazerac recipe using Balvenie 15yo Single Barrel and PX Sherry. If anyone feels like complaining about the fact that we're using a good single malt in a cocktail, can I suggest you jog on and complain to the Daily Mail - they'll probably have a story to print about it being responsible for immigration. Or something.

Master of Cocktails - Pisco Sour

by Ben Ellefsen     13. October 2014 09:31

Master of Cocktails pisco sour

Well hello friends. I almost didn't see you there. Is it time for a drink? Seems a lot like it, doesn't it? Today we're making a sour recipe with an oft-maligned ingredient, Pisco. If you're not familiar with pisco (or worse, if you've only tried the really cheap stuff), it's worth getting to know.

It's in the brandy/grappa family, made in Peru (and Chile, which has caused quite a rivalry between the two nations - many thanks to @robbo_123 for this knowledge). We'll be using a perfect example of truly ace pisco - Payet Acholado.

Our International Wine & Spirit Competition 2014 Winnings

by Sam Smith     23. July 2014 10:20

International Wine & Spirit Competition 2014

The folks here at MoM Towers aren’t going to win the World Cup anytime soon. Our team, Bitter Bastards FC, are just a few players short of a full squad and therefore wouldn’t qualify, so the German team has nothing to be worried about… Yet. We’re also not going to win Wimbledon, despite a small subset of us being pretty gosh-darn good at squash (they’re basically the same sport, one just has more passive aggressive connotations and a wall). Oscars? Probably not. Grammys? Unlikely. Nobel Peace Prize? Doubtful at best. Medals for making stunning drinks? Now you’re talking!

That’s right, that little preamble is leading up to us proudly showing off the medals our products scooped up at the prestigious International Wine & Spirits Competition 2014. We’re always immensely excited and grateful when the products we make are commended by the highly knowledgeable tasters behind these awarding bodies - it really does mean the world to us.
