New Product: 1897 Quinine Gin - supporting Malaria No More UK

by Jake Mountain     20. August 2015 09:00

1897 Quinine Gin

Something really very special here. An innovative new London Dry Gin - launching today - which is not only delicious but will also help save lives. 1897 Quinine Gin is made with cinchona bark (the natural and traditional source of quinine) as well as fresh citrus peels cold distilled under vacuum to extract flavours that remain full of vitality and freshness. In the case of the cinchona bark this means ethereal and floral notes that contribute heavily to the overall flavour profile of the finished gin.

As well as being a truly stunning spirit, 1897 Quinine Gin supports a fantastic charity in Malaria No More UK. For every bottle sold, over half of the producer's profit (at least £5) will be donated. That's enough to buy, deliver and hang a mosquito net for a family living at risk from malaria in Africa - protecting their children whilst they sleep.‪

The Charity Run of the Bumblebee!

Charity Bee Run

This bank holiday/Star Wars day weekend saw the Charity Bee Run take place! Wheels that were put in motion back on Glenfarclas 105 Day with our Facebook competition saw a bee's tired limbs still in motion at the end of a 21 mile scurry for charity seventeen days later.

Raising over £1,000 for Ripple Africa's Malawian secondary school scholarships; Andrew Wheelhouse, we salute you! Ably supported by his brother Chris, 'The B Team' got lost a couple of times, travelled through Pratt's Bottom, were nearly cornered by a herd of dairy cows and were forced to stop briefly when star struck by the dog from the Cesar adverts, but ultimately they prevailed! We were delighted to receive them at MoM Towers and to present them with their prize: a hard earned and colossal 3 litre bottle of Glenfarclas 105! We also took these champs for a slap up dinner to recharge their batteries before they buzzed off home again.

I don't think there can be(e) any doubt that Andrew was indeed the most deserving winner of our competition. The money he has raised already will allow nine Malawian children to attend secondary school for an entire year, and if you'd like to help him ensure access to eduction for even more, you can donate to this fantastic cause on Andrew's Givey Page.

Limited Edition Joey Dunlop Charity Whisky from the Isle of Man TT

Joey Dunlop Foundation Whisky

After Fèis Ìle 2014 I travelled straight down to Liverpool - do not pass go, do not collect any clean underwear - and jumped on the Steam Packet over to the Isle of Man for the famous TT motorcycle races!

These legendary road races date back 107 years and the lap record now stands at 17 minutes 6.682 seconds for 37.733 miles, set by Bruce Anstey this year. That's an average speed of 132.298 mph! On narrow roads with over 120 corners!!! What's any of this got to do with whisky though? Well, last year the Joey Dunlop Foundation released a special limited edition blended malt Scotch whisky, which they sourced with a little help from Ralfy off of ralfystuff, with all profits going to the charity.
