Red Ale

With its roots in Irish Ale, red ales can range in colour from reddish amber to deep red hues and tend to be malty with notes of butterscotch or lightly hopped with earthy/tea notes. Some American ales are also referred to as red ales, making distinctions less clear, but modern craft examples (from all around the world) tend to follow the loose Irish definition provided here. If you're looking for Flanders Red Ales, you’ll find them on the Sour / Lambic beer page.
