Developed in 1988 from classic Hallertau Mittlefruh (2/3) and a male New Zealand strain (1/3). Despite the name, this variety is perfectly suitable as a bittering hop (high yield, fairly high alpha acids 7-9%), but is usually used later providing floral, slightly woody notes and citrus character to Pale Ales, Lagers and Pilsners. An alternative, naturally, is Hallertau Mittelfrüh.
