One of three styles of strong beers produced by the Trappist breweries, Dubbel (6-7.6%) is lower in alcohol than the Tripel and Quadrupel and has a dark bronze hue. These have been closely linked to the Westmalle Trappist brewery, though other Trappist breweries produce them too. As you might be able to guess, Tripels are stronger than Dubbels, and Quadrupel are stronger than both.
You’ll often find Dubbel to have a good balance of spice and fruit to them, with some showing off rich raisin and sultana sweetness. Yeast will often come to the fore when tasting a good Dubbel, too. This flavour profile combined with their moderate ABVs make Dubbels great early evening beers.
