Whisky or Whiskey

Interesting fact… The Macallan 55 Year Old Lalique Decanter whisky spells its name whisky as it originates in Scotland. Had it been produced in America its name would be The Macallan 55 Year Old Lalique Decanter whiskey, instead of whisky.

The Macallan Lalique Bottling Note

This has become legendary! A beautifully presented single malt, aged for an astonishing 55 years. For this, Macallan teamed up with French crystal makers Lalique who crafted the stunning decanter bottle.

The Macallan Lalique Tasting Note

Widely reputed to be a rich, intense single malt with plenty of mace, ground ginger and nutty notes.

Reviews of the Macallan 55 Year Old Lalique Decanter

Best i've ever tried 10+++++

Rating (5)

I bought a few of these when they first came out - made a spot of money selling a couple on and am keeping one safe. However the one i'm currently drinking is simply wonderful; rich, spicy, oaky, nutty and with the most intense colour, well worth every penny (£282.50 per measure), stacks up well to DP 1995 and DP vintage rose price wise, but so much more fun! I'm hoping to win the macallan that Harrods have up for auction soon - only a 50 year old but one of three in the UK!

Quite good, but not great

Rating (3.5)

I usually prefer Johnny Walker Black, but I had to make do with this as a "gift" i found in my fathers collection when he passed on. It was a pretty good balance of taste and goes very well in a Coke Zero. So you mix this in with some ice and Coke Zero and its a real hit. Sadly I was only able to drink half of the bottle, got a little too tipsy and dropped the bottle, shattering it and wasting half, but like I said it wasnt really that good.

to the above review "Quite good, but not great"

Rating (5)

I bought Mac 25 never having tried scotch whiskey before and completely enjoyed it. A 55 year Macallan i can only imagine the difference in complexity. You were both lucky/unlucky to have inherited a Mac 55 and your father would have slapped you with a cold fish for mixing it with coke zero.

people have been hanged for a lesser offence!

The socond review must be a joke. Even an imbecile will realize this is nothing like a simple JW blend. To mix with cola is blasphemy and to drop and shatter the remainder is a crime worthy of the noose!

I am sure this person was trying a wind up

Rating (5)

No Bottle of any Blended Whisky comes anywhere near the quality of any McAllan Single Malt. I have had the 25 Year Old and it was Sublime and I can only imagine what a 55 year old would be like. The 2nd Poster is just an Idiot who thinks it is fun to wind people up as he gsts his kicks from people getting upset to his silly posts. It does not work though as anyone with sence knows what he is trying to do and can see that it is true that he is an ablolute IDIOT!!!!

Re: 'Quite good, but not great'... of course it's a wind-up, people that are questioning it are the idiots!!!!! It's quite amusing too, people need to crawl out of their own backsides and rediscover their sense of humour.

It was a wind up

Don't worry about the Oik there on the second comment, he won't ever taste or appreciate good whisky, or indeed know his backside from elbow.

vodka

whiskey tastes like poo....i bought a 1.5l bottle of vodka for 13.50!!well nicer ha ha ha

I would rather have a 6 pack of Coors light and a cheap prostitute. Have a better time and pocket about 9950.00 to boot

get back to proper reviews!

id like to ask if we can could get back to proper reviews of the actual product. i myself am not a connosseur and so would rely on the individuals who are! i cant afford this but if i could i would appreciate an adult review to help my choice.

What planet are you on?

Dash of water only, anything else and you're being ridiculous.

How Much?

I can`t believe anyone would spend nearly £10,000 on a bottle of anything! Its a crazy price to pay, there are hundreds of great single malts and blended whiskeys out there. For your average bloke in the street Bells, special reserve is nice £15.00 worth anybody`s money, if you want to spend a few quid more, Talisker 18 year old is nice and the best single malt in the world ( allegedly ) a 20 year old Yoichi from Japan, yeah you read it right, JAPAN is priced from £150 to £250. But if you`re buying it yourself Bells special reserve will do, if offered then try the rest, if you`re a millionaire go for it, i hope its worth the price!

Ho Hum

Why are we destined to suffer the interference of those who wish to disparage, but with little wit? Ho hum. I don't, and never will, know what it tastes like - but would like a true report of what it does to palates who have the chance to experience it.

A grown up

While I do have a (some may say very juvenile)sense of humour, can these comments not be monitored to ensure that those of us who would appreciate mature observations on the various whiskies don't have to sift through some of the nonsense posted so far? If these idiots feel they must post such infantile dross, there's always Facebook.

Proud to be American

Rating (0.5)

It is a blasphemy to mix the gorgeous Coca Cola Zero with doubtful expired liquors that Scots think so high of. Coca Cola Zero should only be mixed with Johnny Walker or, of course, Jack Daniels. God bless America! And God bless proud Americans.

Brilliant!!!

I have been reading this thread of reviews and what a delight! This is some of the funniest stuff ever. All the serious commentators need to have a good stiff drink and lighten up. We all need a giggle from time to time. One question "Just Brought a Bottle" - where did you bring it from?

What a waste of money!

You could get a highland park 50yo for 10 grand...

to Ho Hum

I say old man, what what, your inference of interference is somewhat trifling in it's pomposity. Ho hum. Piffle and tosh. I too will never taste such masterful concoctions of the overly wealthsome and endowed members of society, but fear not sir, we can but stand in the shadows of bankers, landed gentry and the new rich with our mere 12 year old malts. (or indeed a 6 pack and a prostitute, oh to hell with it, 6 prostitutes!)

meh.

I have sampled this bottle. It is ok, I guess. I had a few measures over spicy chicken wings and fried cheese. The spice of the drink was lost to the buffalo sauce, but the more stringent qualities worked well in washing down the mozzarella sticks. Switching back to my bud light was a nice relief though, as I didn't see what all the fuss was about.

Coke zero?

That's ridiculous. Everyone knows you mix single malts with original coke to draw out the flavor.

Can't hold a candle to Black Velvet

One of my friends got me a bottle of this swill for my birthday as he knows me as being quite the drinker. Had a few pulls on this and immediately wanted to throw up. Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever had the displeasure of tasting. We mixed it with a good amount of Brisk Iced Tea and proceeded to play pong with the final amount, decided after wards to salvage this dive of an evening with some of Canada's finest, and classiest Whisky, that of course being the ever famed Black Velvet.

100 in the U.S.

Only one hundred were available for U.S. market. So it does not make sense for this product to have been reviewed here at all. The product was announced in 2007. So, inheritance and/or multiple gifts do not make sense.

Above comments

thanks all for the moments of comedy i had while reading the many comments, me? i think ill stick to Penderyn!

Dr. Brown

Yall got to much money to be blowing that amount on whiskey? Seriously get real, why don't you invest that money into getting homeless children of the street.

I have never had this, nor will I likely ever.. However, there is nothing finer than coke zero and a good single malt. It hides out the hideous flavors that come with scotch, and amplifies the sweetness of the coke zero. Great match! Try mixing with sunny D

haha

hahahahahahaha

no filtering!

Rating (5)

i wanna thank everyone for this because i was wondering if this site filtered out negitive reviews and only kept positive ones, i see now they filter out nothing, also the reviewer in question got the result he was looking for. on a lighter note (true story) i had a friend over and he was fixing himself drinks all night, next morning i noticed most of my bottle of hennessy vsop was gone, later i called and asked him if he drank it and he said" yeah i mixed it with cranberry juice" he truly had no idea how much it cost or what it was he just figured since there was no beer he thought he'd mix himself a drink lol, anyway cheers to everyone out there.

I Dont drink Whiskey

But How Much!?!?! but if i did drink i would go for a bottle of JB any day

whiskey

prefer a mild taste myself, do like tobymory

confusing

must be simply amazing. still i am starting to think that macallan and retailers around the globe play dearly with prices. i have bought a macallan 1994 vintage from gordon and macphail but i just cant seem to find over the net to compare prices. actually i cant find it anywhere. macallan has mixed up its name into may different bottlings, years, collections...this confuses the consumer

too cheap

I rode my motorbike to the pub

First of all, to my unrefined friends, please disregard the silliness of the posters who must belittle the upper eschelon of society. I had a couple of swallows of M55, I must say my upturned nose went even higher in the air! knowing that you could feed a small village of people with each sip made me want to gulp, but common sense and a refined tongue restrained the action. I poured a bit out of my snifter and onto my jacket potato, mixed it with sour cream and bacon, and went on to eat that too. To better understand the complexity, try to dump a few drops of bitters into your M55, you will be pleasantly surprised. :)

forever searching!

i still cant find the bottle of whiskey i want!
