Insider knowledge: Scapa 15 Year Old 1993 - Cask Strength Edition (Chivas Brothers) whisky is named whisky by virtue of the fact it's from Scotland. If distilled in America the spelling would be Scapa 15 Year Old 1993 - Cask Strength Edition (Chivas Brothers) whiskey, as opposed to whisky.
Being relatively new to the appreciation of single malts this was my first taste of a "cask strength" edition. It is simply unlike any whisky, malt or otherwise, I have tasted before. Intense, straight up the nose, with a burst of orange & grapefruit and the most satisfyingly smooth and warm afterburn, this is going to take some beating. I must say I'm not a great fan of "smoky" malts as yet, I much prefer those with a clean, citrus flavour along with hints of wood and saltyness, but I'm happy to keep learning. In the meantime though, this is my current #1 malt. Bliss in a glass.
