Interesting fact… Oban 1997 (bottled 2012) Montilla Fino Finish - Distillers Edition whisky spells its name whisky as it originates in Scotland. Had it been produced in America its name would be Oban 1997 (bottled 2012) Montilla Fino Finish - Distillers Edition whiskey, instead of whisky.
Nose: Hints of cocoa and grape. Dried peels, almond and soft malt. Seasalt.
Palate: Buttery palate with notes of dark chocolate and cooked fruit. Salt caramel and dried herbs.
Finish: Herbal, coastal finish. Nutty.
My wonderful wife surprises me with a bottle of fine scotch a few times a year. Under the Christmas tree 12 15 1013 I was gifted with the 97 Oban distillers edition. I can not say enough about this work of art. Not often does ANY product live up to all or any hype.. This does. From nose to palate, to lingering finish.
What a merry Christmas indeed.

I have sat down with this lovley dram and its brother the regular 14, which I enjoyed but wasn't super impressed with. However, Obans distillers edition is one that I have really enjoyed and it could be the fact that the Montilla Fino sherry casks have done wonders to the orignal spirit.
Nose- bouquet of ripe fuits, rasberry, black cherry, almost sour cherry/citrus
note as well as a lovley heather honey, vanilla and sea breeze brine
Palate- Enters nice and sweet with honeyed malt, dark cherrys and chocolate
covered nuts. Medium to full bodied which gives you a nice mouth feel.
Finish- Short to medium finish. A drying but mouth watering seabreeze brine
with Malty vailla trailing off and a slighty bitter fig.
Overall- If you enjoy a sweeter scotch and love sherry Obans use of the
Motilla Fino cask add a unique twist on what we are used to and
I highly recommend buying and giving te disillers edition a shot.
