Insider knowledge: Kilchoman Winter 2010 Release whisky is named whisky by virtue of the fact it's from Scotland. If distilled in America the spelling would be Kilchoman Winter 2010 Release whiskey, as opposed to whisky.
Bought it here in the States via Binny's; appearently a "special" bottling just for Binny's. I guess I was hoping/expecting a "immature" version of Ardbeg or Laphroaig (10 yr). Immature it was, too mediciney with an odd after taste. There is potential...but I think it needs to age for a few more years.
My first taste of Kilchoman's produce and I was certainly not disappointed...young but far from unpleasant. I was expecting much the same as other Islay malts but this one definitely has it's own unique flavour. Fresh bourbon influence and a great whoosh of sooty smoky notes on the finish. As a big fan of all things Islay, this gets the thumbs up and I'll be keen to try more from Kichoman distillery!
