Kilchoman Machir Bay Bottling Note

Machir Bay is a gorgeous sherry-finished malt from Islay's newest distillery, Kilchoman. This was released in 2012 and is made up of 60% 3 year old, 35% 4 year old and 5% 5 year old whisky. All were aged in first fill bourbon barrels, before vatting and finishing in an Oloroso sherry butt for two months.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Smoked and malty nose with notes of cured ham, oysters with lemon and red wine vinegar, a touch of TCP and citrus zest.

Palate: Oaky and bittersweet with black pepper, toffee apples, dark chocolate, aniseed and warm, spicy peat. Very complex, with a development of star anise.

Finish: Very long and salty with sticking plasters and blackcurrant.

Overall: Not the peatiest of the Kilchomans, but certainly one of the most complex - really very good indeed.

Incredible

Kilchoman are firing out great quality whiskies and Machir Bay is a dream. A lovely sweet bbq nose and dark chocolate alongside punchy peat and citrus. Amazing stuff and full credit to the hardworking team at Kilchoman

Promising

Lovely dram, has the roughness you would expect from such a young whisky, but there is a lot of promise there. I would like to correct the "Bottling note" from above. This isn't a mix of ages, it is a 3yo finished in sherry casks. At least, that is what my bottle, bought from here, says!

Promising indeed

Reminds me Ardbeg Uigeadail, except there is some rough edges because of very young age. This will be a amazing stuff in 10-12 year old.
