Whiskey or Whisky

Interesting fact… Evan Williams Single Barrel 2002 Vinatge whiskey spells its name whiskey as it originates in America. Had it been produced in Scotland its name would be Evan Williams Single Barrel 2002 Vinatge whisky, instead of whiskey.

Evan Williams 2002 Bottling Note

Incredible value single barrel bourbon from Evan Williams. The single barrel in question was matured on the south side of the fifth floor of Heaven Hill’s Rickhouse R and proofed at 64.9% ABV before being reduced for bottling at 43.3% ABV.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Rich and floral with perfumed leater, lilac, prunes and ginger caramel. Very delicate and floral.

Palate: Not as sweet as the nose suggests. Surprisingly little oak influence for a bourbon as old as this. Barley sugar, baked apple, Autumn berries, particularly apple and pear, and some dark chocolate and menthol notes.

Finish: A faint but distinctive and insistent sweet caramel flavour lingering. Very moreish.

Overall: A delicate and well formed bourbon.

User Reviews of the Evan Williams Single Barrel 2002 Vinatge

Bourbon Cognac?

Opened the bottle and got the floral aroma straight away. On tasting, this Bourbon was about as close to the taste of a really good cognac as you could get without calling it a cognac! It's got the bourbon power ending though so some bite with this one but very refined at the same time. If Bourbons were comedy shows most would be Seinfeld but this would be Frasier. Sophisticated. Solid top notch bourbon

I haven't tried the previous years' single barrels so I can't compare but I was pleasantly surprised at how good this bourbon is. Easy drinking, very little to no burn for me, floral aromas for sure with light vanilla and brown sugar smells. Tastes great, medium finish and a whisky you're gonna want to store several bottles of. Can't wait to try the 2013 version when it comes out.
