Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Well-rounded and smooth. Notes of gentle peat and wafting smoke. Hints of dark nuttiness and espresso beans. A touch of honey with vanilla fudge and a little whisper of something medicinal.

Palate: Quite thick and sweet. Notes of fudge and aniseed, a touch of something nutty with cappuccino and gentle smoke.

Finish: Fairly long with toffee sweetness and developing oak.

    Wonderful flu relief !!!

Acquired a bottle almost by mistake when trying to track down Loch Dhu after sampling one night at the Applecross Inn. NOT DISAPPOINTED - in fact it has become my "turn to" when in need of something medicinal for a cold or flu - IT REALLY WORKS !!! OK I KNOW a lot of them do that (if no Cu Dubh then it is something from Islay for me ) but this far lower budget black whisky comes highly recommended from me !! I of course acknowledge that I need to try Loch Dhu again when found on sale but that is a far larger "investment" to make

    Nice and smooth

One of those excellent bottles that both of us like. Closest thing to the more expensive Loch Dhu. A superb malt - sit back, sip and enjoy.

    Amazing

This is one of the best malts I've tasted for a long time and I've tasted many over the years, lots of flavours, just bought another bottle.

    Mis-spelt and mispronounced

Should be "Cù dubh" (note the direction of the accent) and is pronounced "coo doo". Means black or dark dog.

And Now For Something Completely Different!!

Probably not one for the Single Malt "Aficionado Brigade", however if you like trying an unusual whisky give it a go! Black as a rich dark rum, with heavy liquorice and (possibly) dark chocolate aftertones I found it a pleasant excursion from the norm. Very smooth on the palate. Worth a try at the price, it might surprise you!

    Nice with licorice

An unexpected christmas gift and pretty dank and ugly. Had to mix with cola to drink it. The label sells an otherwise unsaleable brew. Just discovered that eating licorice first makes it drinkable. Have made no secret of the fact I never want to see another bottle of this again.

    It's beautiful and smooth.....

Originally, I thought what the heck... I am up for anything. And a scotch that is almost black, that seemed unique enough for me to add to my collection. It's very nice... very smooth and a little sweet. All in all, it was a good investment (as is most quality scotch). You also can't get it in Australia so thanks to Master Of Malt for global shipping.

Bought a bottle of this, with Loch dhu in mind, although not even in the same league at all, still worth having a bottle in your collection,

An interesting malt to supplement your collection

This recreation of the infamous Loch Dhu black whisky will I'm sure divide people, as it is a truly unusual dram. Light and a little sweet on the nose, which is dominated by the burnt, coffee/liquorice/chocolate nose of the large caramel content. On the palate, a trifle insipid, but matches the nose, with a light mouthfeel. Not much in the way of wood comes through. The whiskey equivalent of Guiness, this is not the classiest whisky ever made. It is easy if a bit bland to drink, but it's a great dram to offer friends, as you can be almost sure they won't have tried it.
