What's in a name? Chichibu Double Matured Newborn Cask No. 446 whisky is called whisky because it's produced in Japan. Were it from America it would be spelled Chichibu Double Matured Newborn Cask No. 446 whiskey, rather than whisky.

Chichibu Newborn Cask 446 Bottling Note

A finished new make from the new Chichibu distillery in Japan. This was initially matured in a bourbon barrel, before a finish in a new American oak hogshead. Distilled from Braemer non-peated barley. Part of an outturn of 355 bottles.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Wonderful sherry character. Reminds us of a well aged Speyside malt (very interesting). Obviously there are shades of unaged malt in this one, but altogether it's a fascinating dram.

Palate: Not as young as you'd expect. Orchard fruits, blossom, oak. Just hints of new make.

Finish: Sublime, very long and perfectly balanced.

Overall: One of the best new makes we've ever had.
