Caperdonich Boutique-y #1 Bottling Note

This whisky is from the Speyside distillery of Caperdonich, a distillery with a turbulent history. Caperdonich opened in 1897 under the imaginative name Glen Grant Number Two, after its sister distillery, and was allegedly linked by a pipe that ran whisky between the two. The distillery then closed in 1902 before reopening in 1965 under the more original name Caperdonich – then in 2002, after thirty-five years of production, the distillery was mothballed and has not reopened since. Thankfully there is still some whisky available for fantastic bottlings such as this one from ‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, blended malts and blends from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish comic book-style labels..

This label features a night time scene of misdemeanour. A ‘donich caper if you will… The perpetrators are attempting to drill into the spirit pipe between Caperdonich and its sister distillery, Glen Grant to get at the liquor-rich goodness within. Cheeky Monkeys.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: A light but intense nose of stewing grapes, raisins, apple-wood ash and pear drops.

Palate: A creamy mouth-feel with rhubarb slathered in custard, followed by salt and pepper.

Finish: Pear drops, rhubarb flavoured boiled sweets, strawberry sauce, and the slightest hint of spent sparkler.

Overall: An immensely aromatic whisky which is almost overpowering at first before succulent estery flavours emerge with sweeter notes of custard and cream.
