Blended Malt Whisky

Blended malts proffer the advantage of having the attributes of numerous single malts, combined. A blended malt is essentially a blend of single malt whiskies. No grain whisky can be added. Blended malts are sometimes referred to as ‘pure malts’ though the term has generated much controversy for it is deemed to be misleading.

Celtic Pillage Malt 2005 (70cl, 55.80%)
In 2005, a charitable bunch headed up by Lagavulin distillery worker Kevin Campbell, rowed a small viking-esque boat from Jura, past seven Islay distilleries, ending up at Bushmills in Northern Ireland.

They collected whisky/whiskey from each distillery en route, vatting together what was collected (cask strength 12 year old whisky), and bottling it at Bruichladdich. This project raised money for the Children's Hospice Association of Scotland and the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice.

No stranger to do-goodery, Python and globetrotter Michael Palin was an avid supporter of the cause. He even said, "This Pillage Malt is terrific stuff. Forget Ambrosia, this is what the Gods should be drinking."  More info
