Hanky Panky Cocktail Bottling Note

The Hanky Panky is a renowned classic cocktail which was added to The Handmade Cocktail Company's official range in 2013. It is based on a recipe which was created in the Savoy Hotel's American Bar in 1903. It was first mixed by Ada Coleman, the head bartender who made drinks for such luminaries as the Prince of Wales, Mark Twain and Sir Charles Hawtrey. Indeed, it was Hawtrey for whom this drink was created.

This was made to a recipe containing top-quality English dry gin, sweet vermouth and a classic bittersweet Italian liqueur - Fernet Branca. The amount of Fernet Branca was reduced slightly to make the resultant drink a tad less aggressive. A portion of the cocktail was also aged in fresh oak to add a little more depth and complexity.

The concept of the ‘Vintage Cocktail’ range is simple – you get all the ingredients for a superb cocktail pre-mixed, all you have to do is pour it over ice, stir, then strain off into your glass and garnish (in this instance with a healthy slice of fresh orange). Each bottle carries a stamp showing its year of manufacture.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Warming, spiced nose with hints of barley sugar, allspice and dried herbs. A little winter spice.

Palate: Sweet and sticky with notes of potpourri and orange rind, a little mixed herb and a hint of peppermint.

Finish: Minty, bittersweet finish with a hint of liquorice.

Overall: A true classic - massively spicy and intense.
