The Japanese whisky industry owes everything to its two leading figures, Masataka Taketsuru from Nikka and Torii Shinjiro from Suntory, both of whom went on pilgrimages to Scotland to learn the techniques and methods of the Scotch distilleries. There are numerous styles made in Japan, just like in Scotland, including blended whiskies, blended malts, and single malts.
