he distillery is founded by Tomintoul Distillery Ltd, which is owned by Hay & MacLeod & Co. and W. & S. Strong & Co.

1965

On stream in July.

1973

Scottish & Universal Investment Trust owned by the Fraser family, buys the distillery. They buy Whyte and Mackay the same year and transfer Tomintoul to that company.

1974

The two stills are increased to four and Tomintoul 12 years is launched.

1978

Lonhro buys Scottish & Universal Investment Trust.

1989

Lonhro sells Whyte and Mackay to

1990

American Brands buys Whyte & Mackay.

1996

Whyte and Mackay changes name to

2000

Angus Dundee plc buys Tomintoul.

2002

Tomintoul 10 year is launched as the first bottling after the change of ownership.

2003

Tomintoul 16 years is launched.

2004

Tomintoul 27 years is launched.

2005

A young, peated version called Old Ballantruan is launched.

2008

1976 Vintage and Peaty Tang are released.
