Fire destroys part of the distillery.
1890
S.S. Bushmills, the distillery´s own steamship, makes its maiden voyage across the Atlantic to deliver whiskey to America and then heads on to Singapore, China and Japan.
1923
The distillery is acquired by Belfast wine and spirit merchant Samuel Wilson Boyd. Anticipating the end of US prohibition, he gears Bushmills up for expansion and increases production.
1939
45 – No distilling during the war. The distillery is partly converted to accommodate American servicemen.
1972
Bushmills joins Irish Distillers Group which was formed in 1966. Floor maltings ceases.
1987
Pernod Ricard acquires Irish Distillers.
1996
Bushmills 16 years old is launched.
2005
Bushmills is sold to Diageo at a price tag of €295.5 million as a result of Pernod Ricard’s acquisition of Allied Domecq.
2007
The 40 year old cast iron mash tun is replaced by a new stainless steel one at a cost of £1.4m.
2008
Celebration to mark the 400th anniversary of the original license to distil granted to the area in 1608.
