Teaninich

The Teaninich whisky distillery has a total annual capacity of four million litres and runs at full capacity. As much as three quarters of this are used for blending; Teaninich is a major component in Haig Dimple and the legendary VAT 69, as well as Johnnie Walker, for... whom the distillery mainly produces for.

Indeed, Teaninich has never marketed itself as producer of single malt Scotch whisky, which is rather a shame, for it exudes as much character and body as its two illustrious neighbours: Dalmore and Glenmorangie. The distillery buildings are rather austere in appearance, sited as they are on an industrial estate at the banks of the River Alness, in stark contrast to the nearby Dalmore distillery, which lies blissfully, overlooking the Cromarty Firth.

Teaninich was founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro who owned the estate for which the distillery was named. The whisky distillery remained in Munro family hands up until 1904, when Robert Innes Cameron, formerly a major share holder, became the sole owner. Following his death in 1932, the distillery was acquired by Distillery Company Limited a year later. Following various mergers during the latter part of the 20th century, the distillery is currently owned by Diageo. There has only been one official release from the Flora and Fauna range and very few independent bottlings.
