A Cognac wine-maker, Rémy Martin, established the company in 1724. During 1731, there was a ban preventing anyone to plant new vines, though Rémy Martin was permitted to by Louis XV, such was the superiority of Martin’s cognacs. In 1874, the company began using an... image of a Centaur on the labels. Paul-Emile Rémy Martin, a descendent of the founder Rémy Martin, was Sagittarius, thus the connection with the mythical beast. Furthermore, the Centaur was deemed to represent man and nature in unison. In 1927, Rémy Martin VSOP was launched and it received wide acclaim. Export began with the USA and China and eventually the brand became globally popular. In 1965, André Heriard Dubreuil was appointed as president of Rémy Martin. All of their products are Fine Champagne Cognacs. The company has been part of Rémy Cointreau. since 1991.
