The Punch brand was created by Don Manuel López in 1840 and, in a bid to appeal to the British public, it was named for the famous domestically violent puppet Mr Punch, of the popular British puppet show “Punch and Judy”. Even to this day, Punch cigar boxes are still... adorned with an illustration of the wantonly cruel Mr Punch puppet clutching a cigar in his hand. The tactic worked, and the brand was very popular in the UK and still is. Its cigars are marked by their strong fragrance and woody, fruity flavours; the name “Punch” is apt. Over the course of the late 1800s and early 20th Century the brand changed ownership several times, until the Cuban cigar industry was eventually nationalised. Today, the classic Corona Gorda “Punch – Punch” and the Churchill are amongst the brand’s best-loved cigars.
