Appearance: Straw gold. Fine and persistent mousse. Nose: Surprisingly earthy and rich; warm pastries. A little green apple note in the background. Almost a hint of soy sauce. This is a very distinctive champagne indeed! Palate: Fruity yet quite savoury. Bready and yeasty, with notes tangy apples. A strong whack of lemon sherbet, elderflower. Meaty, full-bodied, Hoi Sin. Finish: Fades on those hoi sin, umami-rich notes, a little fruit lingers too. Overall: We’re speechless. This is just fantastic stuff! ...more
The Master of Malt
OH MY LORD
THIS IS FACE MELTINGLY GOOD.
NOT a secret shame
I have to admit, in my ignorance, I'd never heard of Cattier. I bought a bottle to treat my wife, but poured it out of site so she wouldn't think me cheap. She didn't, she assumed it was a £100+ bottle of champagne. Now that i also know it's heritage, i proudly pour away in full view of all! Just delicious, I'll never spend more than £30 for a bottle of champagne while this stuff is available.
Astonishing
This really does beat most Champagnes I've tried in the £60+ bracket, this is just an insanely low price for the quality. From now on it's either Dom Pérignon, it's going to be this. Well done the Masters of Malt!
