Whisky is matured in a range of oaks, from the American and European to the more unusual Truffle and Burr oak. Oak is of key importance in whisky, for it imparts such flavour, and even proffers the cork. Many of our whiskies have spent a good quantity of time in oak, including our 50 year old whiskies. This make for a superb 50th birthday gift, or as a replacement for the traditional - and thoroughly flavourless - gold as a 50th wedding anniversary present. We have some superb 50 year old Lowland whiskies. These are gentle, delicate whiskies, often referred to as the 'Lowland ladies'. Floral notes abound, with deft balance.
