El Dorado 25 Bottling Note

A very, very exciting special edition from El Dorado. This was distilled in 1980 and, by Jove, it's one of the most fantastic rums you'll ever try, aged for a whopping 25 years.

User Reviews of the El Dorado 25 Year Old 1980

Bought

The last bottle in St mateen July 13. 3 bottles were for sale on the island and the day before I bought mine a yacht owner in st. Thomas ordered for immediate transport the other 2 bottles. The 25 1980 appears to be rapidly becoming one of the rarest and hardest to acquire modern day rums in the world!

St maarten, stockists

This rum is available from a number of shops in st maarten at around 350 us or just under 200 pounds. Totally unbelievable taste, rum from the angels.

Please help

Depending where your located you may have to look into an area that has a Guyanese community, or someone who's traveling there....Cheers ; )

Please help!

I know this isn't really a review, but I've been in search for this rum everywhere for the past few years. I'd love to give it to my fiancé as a wedding gift, but no matter what website or liquor store I visit no one either has it, or sold out of it. I'd be my greatest gift to give it to him since he absolutely adores his rum. I've traveled all over & still can't find it, so please can anyone help me?!

@Forgive my ignorance

It's all to do with chemistry! Wines have complex large molecules not present in spirits (due to the distillation process), which continue to interact while in the bottle. Spirits do not, although an opened bottle will oxidise in time (the more air is in the bottle, the quicker this will happen), which can change the taste of the whisky. --The Chaps at Master of Malt

Forgive my ignorance

Why is it that dessert wines (e.g. Tokaji) continue to age in the bottle but spirits do not?

@ Counting concern!

Spirits only age in the cask so a 25 year old expression with a vintage of 1980 would have been uncasked, and in all probability bottled, in 2005 or the first part of 2006 (before the spirit had spent 26 whole years in casks). - The Chaps at Master of Malt

Counting concern!

Surely 1980 was 33 years ago, not 25??
