Master of Cocktails - The Last Word

Master of Cocktails The Last Word Cocktail

Following on from The Negroni and The Scottish Gold Rush, we’re now entering Master of Cocktails’ third week – how time flies!

Each week you can follow along on Sunday evenings via twitter (#MasterofCocktails) and, in fact, from now on we’ll be letting you know what you’ll need for the following week, making it even easier.

(You can find next week's ingredients at the bottom of this blog post.)

Last night, we made one of my all-time favourites cocktails: The Last Word. These are just awesome. If you haven’t ever tried one then, frankly, we feel sorry for you. Fortunately, you can remedy this terrible state of affairs by following the simple instructions below...

Master of Cocktails Ingredients

You’ll be needing these...

List of Ingredients

  • 20ml Professor Cornelius Ampleforth's Cask-Aged Gin Navy-Strength
  • 20 ml Green Chartreuse
  • 20 ml Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
  • 20ml Fresh lime juice
  • Luxardo Maraschino Cherry (Garnish)
  • As with last week’s recipe, the first thing you’ll want to do is pop a martini glass in the freezer.

The measurements couldn’t be much simpler, really - you'll need 20ml of all 4 ingredients. Let’s start with the fresh lime juice.

    Master of Cocktails Lime

Using a Mexican elbow will make your life much easier. (The lime goes in this way round.)

To that, add 20ml of Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur. Super-sweet herbal cherry loveliness!

Next up, 20ml of Green Chartreuse. This is supremely intense with a flavour like nothing else.

    Finally, 20ml of Professor Cornelius Ampleforth's Cask-Aged Gin Navy-Strength.

This stuff is *properly* epic incidentally. Huge botanical intensity and massive cask influence.

Combine all of the ingredients in a boston shaker. Fill with ice.

Shake for 30 seconds or so, until the shaker frosts up on the outside.

Grab your martini glass from the freezer – it should be good and frozen by now.

Double-strain your cocktail into the martini glass.

Finally, garnish with a Luxardo Maraschino Cherry. These boys are *amazing*.

There we have it. The Last Word Cocktail. Huge botanical punch balanced by sweet, and sour.
