Adelphi Whisky

 Adelphi Whisky

We’re proud to announce that we now stock whiskies from Adelphi. Over the years we’ve had the good fortune to sample quite a few Adelphi bottlings, and we’ve been very impressed, so we were thrilled when the new bottles arrived.

The Adelphi Distillery is actually one of the lost distilleries of Scotland, which operated from 1826 to around 1907. In 1880, the distillery was acquired by Messrs A. Walker and Co and it was Walker’s great-grandson, Jamie Walker, who restored the Adelphi name in 1993, but this time not as a distillery, as an independent bottler.More...

Old Whisky

 Macallan 1951 Whisky

Old whiskies have always commanded respect from the drinking public. It is widely thought that the older the whisky, the better. Distilleries have always pushed for this, because they can demand higher prices, and the increased rarity of old whisky has helped cement their éclat. At Master of Malt, we think whiskies have a life span; some require a lot of ageing to reach their peak, and others need only a few years. There are some very young whiskies which have reached their full potential very early in life; Ardbeg 10 is an awe-inspiring single malt and we’ve only got good things to say about the 3 year old English Whisky Chapter 6!

It is undeniable, however, that there is something very special about extensively aged malt. We’ve been lucky enough to taste some great 40 year old whisky recently.

A single cask 40 year old Glenfarclas had this impression on us:

The Winner of the Glenfarclas 40 Year Old

by Master of Malt     1. March 2010 10:50

All you avid whisky enthusiasts will know of our little (not so little) prize giveaway of last month. We’ve reached our 25th anniversary and we’re full of collective beans so we picked a 40 year old Glenfarclas off the shelf (worth £1,500!) and offered up 250 chances to win it – all entrants had to do was buy any full-size Glenfarclas from the site…

Now, the purpose of this post is twofold. Firstly, we wanted, very much, to revel in our own beneficence, as we join the list of history’s greatest philanthropists (Paul Newman, Bono, Matt Damon…) that’s right…

And the winner is...

by Master of Malt     24. February 2010 09:47

We know you’ve all been waiting with bated breath for the results of the £1,500 Glenfarclas prize draw, and we’re pleased to say that this morning, one lucky customer has been drawn from the 250 entrants, and will shortly receive the prize of a bottle of single-cask 40 year old Glenfarclas.

So, without further ado, the lucky winner is order number 1266770 - Mr Eamon Roque.

Congratulations to Eamon, who will be receiving his bottle within a few days, and to those who sadly didn’t win this time, keep your eyes on the site, as we’ll be holding another prize draw in not too long.

For now though – why not have a look at our new headline offer – the spectacular Bowmore 26yo.

Movember

The more observant of you will have noticed that for the past 27 days, a blooming great moustache has adorned the front page of our website, and the Master of Malt logo has also sported a rather dashing pair of lip-weasels. The reason for this isn’t temporary insanity – we’re simply showing our support for the month-long men’s health charity event – Movember.

Every November (November, Moustache, Movember – geddit?) men all across the country grow their ‘taches from scratch, and join in with events to raise funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity. It’s a sobering thought that prostate cancer accounts for a full quarter of all incidences of cancer in men in the UK, and raising awareness of this condition is something that we’re glad to be a part of.

The Master of Malt team has shown its support in 2009 by growing (mainly very inadequate) moustaches, and launching a special edition ‘Whisky 4 Movember’ bottling. All the profits generated by this bottling are being donated directly to Movember.
