For this week's #MasterofCocktails we're making 'fluffy ruffs'!
Whilst leafing through The Savoy Cocktail Book, I came across the Fluffy Ruffles Cocktail. The recipe took a bit of fiddling before I was happy with it - some of the quantities and even ingredients needed changing. The final result of said tinkering is a delicious cocktail that calls for Rum, Sugar, Lime and Quinquina.
What's not to like?
Winning can be tough. Rugby players sometimes get their teeth knocked out to win. Wrestlers have to dropkick everyone in sight to get a taste of the gold. Chess is just difficult to play, let alone beat someone at it. To other people, like this week’s winner of our Premium Whisky Advent Calendar competition, winning was as easy as buying a delicious Tasting Set and letting the prizes roll in.

Turns out that it’s not only the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything, but is also the number of releases from That Boutique-y Whisky Company to date.
I’m pleased to say that numbers 39-42 are as fabulous as those that preceded them, and am delighted to reveal that we’ve got yet another 4 releases to come before the end of the year (including time-travelling barmen, and an absolute belter of an Islay that’s something of an exclusive).
The 11th November 2013 will forever go down in the annals of history as 3D-Day, the day when the chaps off that there Caskstrength.net officially launched their fourth whisky bottling as well as a piece of cinema that may well prove to be the most significant televisual event since Quantum Leap, and I don't say that lightly.
‘A’ was for Arran, ‘B’ was for BenRiach and ‘C’ was for Cutty Sark. That leads us to ‘D’ in Neil and Joel’s epic A-Z series, and why have one ‘D’ when you can have 3? A tremendous blended malt constructed from the Diageo trio of Dailuaine, Dalwhinnie and Dufftown single malts was the result. It’s quite literally 3'D' malt whisky, and who doesn’t love a bit of 3D?
Whisky cocktails don’t get much more classic than the Blood and Sand, so it was inevitable that it would feature on #MasterofCocktails sooner or later. This version has, however, been thoroughly pimped with some snazzy new ingredients!
Most of the tweets I received last night went along the lines of "I need to get me some of that", almost regardless of the ingredient that was being mentioned. They were all 100% spot on too - you do indeed need these in your life as they're properly crazy-good!

Ah mulled wine. The most Christmassy of drinks. Head and shoulders even above Eggnog. There’s really nothing like it to warm the cockles, instil a sense of bonhomie, and usher in the festive season properly.
There are many schools of thought about what the best part of Christmas is. Some say it’s the roast dinner with all the trimmings. Others say it’s the same Christmas movie every year (at the Smith household, it’s the Tom Hanks comedy masterpiece “Big”). Many say that the best part is getting awesome presents, but here at Master of Malt, we think that giving awesome presents is our favourite part of Christmas, so much so that we’re getting started early this year with our fabulous, festive competition where you could win a Premium Whisky Advent Calendar!
There are people who are born winners. Other people become winners. Some people are born as dolphins, which means that they aren’t actually people at all. We’re not concerned about dolphins today (although we should all help save them from extinction!).

Who doesn’t like a bit of Hanky Panky? This week we made a classic gin-based cocktail, and if you’re yet to try this particular one, then you’re in for a treat!
The history of The Hanky Panky is fascinating, having first been knocked up by the Ada ‘Coley’ Coleman, head bartender at the Savoy back in the early 1900s. When renowned actor Charles Hawtrey requested something with a kick, she tinkered away, creating, but not naming, this very cocktail. When the opportunity next arose to serve it to her famous guest, it was he who exclaimed “that’s the real hanky panky!”, and he was dead right!
Last week, we gave you the choice between a classic summer cocktail or something more wintery and, overwhelmingly, the good people of twitter voted for a winter #MasterofCocktails option. So, last night we made the ultimate Eggnog!
The clocks had just gone back and the #UKStorm2013 was approaching so it did indeed seem the perfect time to batten down the hatches and mix up a classic winter warmer whilst we waited for all this to blow over.
