Master of Malt Wins the DRA 2012

Last week was quite a week.

Tuesday evening saw the MoM team in the opulent surroundings of the Dorchester hotel, having been nominated for not one, but two awards at the highly prestigious Drinks Retailing Awards – organised by Off Licence News. Spoiler alert: We won them both.

by Cat Spencer     8. February 2013 11:10

And…we’re back! That’s right folks, we’re now shipping to the USA again! It was scary there for a moment, but this brave little eagle has personally agreed to fly all of your packages across the Atlantic ocean for just a few kippers a day!

Master of Malt win ‘Online Retailer of the Year’ at the World Whiskies Awards 2012

by Ben Ellefsen     2. April 2012 11:44

Well - last week was quite a week. Further to staying up unfeasibly late on Tuesday drinking Hot chocolate and Lemonade into the wee hours with the lovely folk at Glenfarclas and Pol Roger, I was invited to judge the World Whiskies Awards on the Wednesday evening (an amazing showing all round, the results of which can be found here). .

Following that, I was up bright and early (ish) to present at the World Whiskies Conference on Thursday afternoon (I didn’t say any rude words during the course of my speech. I am proud of this).

After the world whiskies conference was the World Whiskies Awards, whereupon myself and another couple of directors were left at a table, unsupervised by any kind of grown-ups, in the presence of a bottle of Kavalan Solist, and a Batch 30 bottle of Aberlour a’Bunadh. More...

New Product entitled… erm… “Brown Drink”

by Ben Ellefsen     3. August 2011 15:43

So – we’ve been doing our Drinks by the Dram whisky sample service for almost a year now, and in that time have decanted ‘loads’ of 700ml bottles into 30ml samples.

700 divided by 30 is 690, so even if one is slightly generous with the 30ml measure, there’s still going to be a little drop or two left over.

My original plan (and I thought it was a darned good one) was to save all of this up, and make some awesome cocktails at the staff Christmas party, or maybe do something at the directors’ joint birthday party, but it turns out that “a little drop or two” multiplied by “loads” is about 37 full-sized bottles-worth.

Even we aren’t that thirsty. More...

Whisky Samples

We’ve added some incredibly exciting spirits to our Drinks by the Dram sample service.

These include a brace of classic Speyside distilleries, some beautiful Bajan rums and a trio of cognacs.

Here’s a rundown of the new selection of samples, kicking off with William Grant’s legendary Balvenie and Glenfiddich distilleries.

Having their entire range in dram form is quite a coup, we’re sure you’ll agree… More...

Caption Contest Winners

Buy Parker's 27 Year Old bourbon

The caption contest closed on Friday evening. We were sad that we’d no longer be receiving suggestions, but we felt elated that soon we would reward the hilarious wits of the whisky world.

Thank you for entering; we all know it’s the taking part that counts, though in another more real way, we know that winning is everything.

With this in mind, we devised a complex scoring system, made a shortlist, and selected three winners. They are thus… More...

Jefferson's Bourbon

by Michael Orson     19. July 2010 12:57
Jefferson’s Bourbon

With some great new products in, we decided to a do a quick tasting. We now stock a couple of Jefferson's bourbons, and this morning we put the eponymous whiskies through their paces.

Both were Gold Medal winners at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and both are produced by small batch distiller McLain & Kyne (notable as one of few Americans distilleries to spell whisky in the Scottish style - sans the 'E').

Both are also available as 3cl samples too...More...

Buy a sample of the Glenfarclas 40 Year Old Scottish Classic

by Michael Orson     14. July 2010 14:10
Glenfarclas 40 Year Old Scottish Classic

Glenfarclas added a 40 year old to their core range this year. A bold move like this is testament to Glenfarclas’ incredible stocks, and most distilleries would struggle to maintain production of a core range 40 year old bottling.

It was set apart from the year’s other high end releases by two factors. One was quality; we’ve sung its praises before so we won’t go into too much detail, but suffice to say it’s a stunner! The second factor was price; most whiskies in this age range (particularly from stalwart premium distilleries like Glenfarclas) retail at a minimum of a grand. Amazingly, you can find Glenfarclas 40 at just £289 (from us of course!). More...
