The Charity Run of the Bumblebee!

by Master of Malt     5. May 2015 16:00

Charity Bee Run

This bank holiday/Star Wars day weekend saw the Charity Bee Run take place! Wheels that were put in motion back on Glenfarclas 105 Day with our Facebook competition saw a bee's tired limbs still in motion at the end of a 21 mile scurry for charity seventeen days later.

Raising over £1,000 for Ripple Africa's Malawian secondary school scholarships; Andrew Wheelhouse, we salute you! Ably supported by his brother Chris, 'The B Team' got lost a couple of times, travelled through Pratt's Bottom, were nearly cornered by a herd of dairy cows and were forced to stop briefly when star struck by the dog from the Cesar adverts, but ultimately they prevailed! We were delighted to receive them at MoM Towers and to present them with their prize: a hard earned and colossal 3 litre bottle of Glenfarclas 105! We also took these champs for a slap up dinner to recharge their batteries before they buzzed off home again.

I don't think there can be(e) any doubt that Andrew was indeed the most deserving winner of our competition. The money he has raised already will allow nine Malawian children to attend secondary school for an entire year, and if you'd like to help him ensure access to eduction for even more, you can donate to this fantastic cause on Andrew's Givey Page.

Sorry guys… The Bruichladdich Prices *were* wrong

by Master of Malt     1. May 2015 18:25

Master Of Malt Single Casks Glass Closures

So, here's the thing. We fucked up. We got the pricing on our recently released Bruichladdich single casks wrong. To be precise, we accidentally used the figure per litre of pure alcohol instead of the figure per litre of finished liquid in our calculations. The prices of our bottlings are always based on the cost of the liquid, and in this case the costs we used were incorrect. This blog post, for the avoidance of doubt, was written on the naughty step. We took ourselves there.

New Innovative Glass Closures Now Available Separately For Just £1

by Master of Malt     30. April 2015 16:00

Master Of Malt Single Casks Glass Closures

You may have seen that we recently launched a couple of single casks that featured our shiny new innovative glass closures, which you can read all about here. We also invited you to give your feedback and one query that arose was whether we were going to sell the closures separately, after all, they'll fit any of the bottles in our Single Cask Series! We thought this was such a good idea that we should do it immediately. So we did.

Six New Master of Malt Single Cask Bottlings PLUS We Present Our New Glass Closures

by Master of Malt     22. April 2015 07:59

Master Of Malt Single Casks Glass Closures

So then. Single Cask bottlings, eh? Specifically our Single Cask bottlings. It's been a little while since we've bottled a load of delicious whisky for our Single Cask Series, but we're happy to announce not one, not two, not four, but six brand new Master of Malt Single Cask Series bottlings! This bunch includes a 23 year old Ardbeg(!), a 23 year old Invergordon single grain, a 17 year old Ben Nevis and two Bruichladdich single malts.

Exciting, yes? Of course it is. What's also very exciting is that we're releasing two independently bottled single cask whiskies with innovative glass closures, making cork-taint in single malt whiskies a thing of the past. (To be honest, it's a bit of an experiment - we'd love to know what you think but we'll get to that in a minute.)

Glenlivet Nàdurra First Fill Selection

by Jake Mountain     6. March 2015 10:09

Glenlivet Nàdurra First Fill Selection whisky

A little while back I received a sample of Nàdurra First Fill Selection only to get all full of horrible cold when the time came to taste it. Hmph. After recovering from this particular malady, I then promptly succumbed to some kind of debilitating manflu straight away! (But that's another story, with another untasted sample staring at me throughout, goading me to get better. Or at least recover the sense of smell...)

Fortunately, between these two bouts of sub-optimum health (during which I was ejected from MoM towers as they rightly feared I'd infect the populous) I did at least manage to find some time to try this new Glenlivet! It's also now in stock and available to buy, so it seems like a good time to pop some thoughts on the ol' blog.

Whisky Santa's Whisky Advent Day 23: The Macallan Amber

by Whisky Santa     23. December 2014 00:00

The Macallan Amber 1824

The number 23. No, not the 2007 Jim Carey movie that currently has a rating of 8% on Rotten Tomatoes (that'll learn him for playing The Grinch), nor the shirt number favoured by sportsballm'n Michael Jordan and Sir. David of Beckhenham. No, today the number 23 is all about the window we're opening on our Whisky Advent Calendars!

And behind that window you'll discover... The Macallan Amber! It's the second single malt in this Speyside distillery's 1824 Series of ex-Sherry cask matured non age statement whiskies. Each release in the range is named after its colour, the others being Gold, Sienna and Ruby. You may be thinking that Gold sounds more festive, but the dram in your hand is actually worth more than its weight in Gold. Ho ho oro!

Whisky Santa's Whisky Advent Day 21: Mortlach Rare Old

by Whisky Santa     21. December 2014 00:00

Mortlach Rare Old

Time for us all to open the 21st window of our Whisky Advent Calendars! And inside it's... a new look single malt Scotch whisky from Dufftown in Speyside. A whole new expression from Mortlach to be precise, a distillery that was founded back in the 1820s and you may know best from their 16yo 'Flora & Fauna' release featuring a Goldeneye duck. (James Pond, anyone?)

With past distillery releases few and far between, Mortlach (or 'duck massacre') now has its own shiny new core range! Time to jump in with Rare Old, which has a greater bourbon cask influence than you may expect alongside the more familiar Sherried spirit.

Whisky Santa's Whisky Advent Day 18: Arran - Batch 4 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

by Whisky Santa     18. December 2014 00:00

Arran Batch 4 That Boutique-y Whisky Company

Followers of That Boutique-y Whisky Company's batches of Arran single malt Scotch whisky will know that the label features Boutique-y illustrator Emily Chappell stranded on a desert island. Not the most festive of scenes, perhaps, except if you look carefully at Batch 4 you'll see that she's actually put up her Christmas tree!

An appropriate choice for day 18 of the Whisky Advent Calendar then! There's even some festive spice and warming rye-style notes in this batch, although it's very much still a charming Arran, and I'm rather partial to a charming Arran...

by Whisky Santa     14. December 2014 00:00

Balvenie 12 Year Old Single Barrel First Fill

Day 14 is upon us, which means two things...

1) We're 10 days away from Christmas. This could either instil joy or fear into your heart, dependent on whether you've figured out what gifts you're going to get everyone. (By the way, do you think the reindeer will mind getting a hamper full of carrots for the 18th year running?)

2) Behind the window of your Whisky Advent Calendars today, you'll be finding a delicious dram of IWSC Trophy-winning Balvenie 12 Year Old Single Barrel - First Fill! A superb single malt from the spectacular Speyside distillery, matured in first fill bourbon casks, with each bottle being one of no more than 300 drawn from a single cask. Top quality mince pie accompaniment, this is.

Whisky Santa's Whisky Advent Day 11: Glenfiddich 18 Year Old

by Whisky Santa     11. December 2014 00:00

Glenfiddich 18 Year Old

Behind the eleventh window of your Whisky Advent Calendars you'll find a very famous name: Glenfiddich. It's famous because it's the world's best-selling single malt and the one that basically created the modern single malt category back in 1963! Some whisky drinkers tend to overlook whiskies from the top-selling distilleries, although it's often fun to see the same whisky drinkers try a couple of them! (All the better if they do so blind!)

Today, we have the pleasure of Glenfiddich 18 Year Old, the full bottle of which has received some fancy new packaging recently. Could be the perfect time to pick up a bottle (with some added treats below...) or else try and win yourself one...
