Caption Contest #5 - Winners Announced!

by Sam Smith     17. March 2014 12:00

Bearded Cat

So it seems there was a Caption Competition announced a couple days ago and we need to declare some winners. I was out of the office on the day it was announced, so imagine my surprise when I returned to find a picture of me training for my upcoming Broadway show CATS (in Ireland) had been used for the competition! I knew I should never have become friends with Jake on Facebook.

Nevertheless, we received a bunch of entries and (using a very scientific method which definitely was not just us chuckling away at our desks) decided on whom shall be receiving each of the three Drinks by the Dram Irish Whiskey Tasting Sets for St. Patrick’s Day!

Caption Contest #5 - Win an Irish Whiskey Tasting Set!

by Jake Mountain     12. March 2014 10:56

St. Patrick's Day

To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, we're giving away THREE of the fantastic Irish Whiskey Tasting Sets from Drinks by the Dram!

As with our Clynelish competition last year, to receive full marks we'd like you to actually add your caption to the image below in an internet meme style and then Post it on our Facebook Page. If you google "meme generator" there are plenty of sites that'll do the technical bit for you, so you don't have to be a whizz on Photoshop or anything, just a whizz at captioning things!

Enter by 3pm on Friday 14th March to be in with a chance of winning, then we'll select our 3 favourites to each win a set. So, all you have to do now is decide what Sam's been getting up to lately. Over to you...

Winner of the Caption Contest!

Highlander and Clynelish bottle

After poring over the entries from our recent caption competition, wherein the winner was promised a full bottle of Clynelish whisky from That Boutique-y Whisky Company, we were a bit stumped (or chimped).

We struggled to choose just one entry; there were so many outrageous images to choose from (some more so than others)! We finally caved and decided that though there can only be one champion, there were a few entries that deserved honourable mentions (and drams). Still, there can only be one, and there was one that was truly more evolved (wink!) than the rest.

So, without further ado...

Caption Contest Winners!

Christian Bale

Well, it’s been an interesting week of nervously checking the comments to make sure none of them were *too* near the mark, but we’ve made it, and no one’s lodged any formal complaints. By all accounts it was a rip-roaring success. Huzzah.

I think Christian Bale’s pretty face may have had something to do with the great reponse, but regardless there were some very witty suggestions, and so we’ve picked not only three winners (we’ve been feeling extra beneficent recently) – but 5, More...

Caption Contest #3 – Win a dram of Lagavulin Feis Ile!

American Psycho

In our last caption contest, I posted a doctored still from the movie Scarface. I was pushing my luck a little, particularly as it involved editing out a machine gun and replacing it with a bottle of Bathtub Gin and a Martini. Ben let me get away with it.

This time, I think I may be in for a telling off, but it’ll be funny while it lasts, and delicious for all as the best three caption suggestions will each win a 3cl sample of the staggeringly good Lagavulin Feis Ile 2011, a whisky that we just loved when we first tried it on Islay last year (in a little cottage in a powercut in the middle of a ferocious storm no less!). Win a bottle of Bathtub Gin!

Ahh yes, it’s time to announce the winner of our little caption contest! We’ve had loads of brilliant suggestions, and many, many captions which began “say hello to my little…”.

Before we announce the winner, here’s another crudely doctored image of Tony Montana, chilling out in his study with a fine bottle of Bathtub Gin. More...

Caption Contest #2 – Win a bottle of Bathtub Gin!

Win a bottle of Bathtub Gin!

One of the most exciting events that sometimes, inexplicably comes into being is a Master of Malt caption contest. This certainly has absolutely nothing to do with the fact we had to do a blog post and this is the best Ben and I could think of at such short notice...

This week we turn to every aspiring rapper’s favourite gangster, Tony Montana (as everyone knows, the first rule of hiphop is if you’re going to quote a movie, it better star Al Pacino, and Scarface of course is high up on the priority list for “movies-you-have-to-quote-from-if-you’re-a-rapperm'n”). Buy Parker's 27 Year Old bourbon

The caption contest closed on Friday evening. We were sad that we’d no longer be receiving suggestions, but we felt elated that soon we would reward the hilarious wits of the whisky world.

Thank you for entering; we all know it’s the taking part that counts, though in another more real way, we know that winning is everything.

With this in mind, we devised a complex scoring system, made a shortlist, and selected three winners. They are thus… More...
